UDA Secretary General Senator Hassan Omar Hassan has called on East African Community (EAC) member states to embrace Somalia and strengthen regional cooperation as the country continues its integration into the bloc.
Hassan made the remarks during an engagement between the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Committee on Communication, Trade and Investment and Somalia's State Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ali Mohamed Omar in Mogadishu.
The EALA delegation was led by Committee Chairperson Francine Rutazana and included Hassan Omar.
The discussions focused on Somalia's progress in implementing its obligations under the EAC Treaty since joining the regional bloc in November 2023.
Ali briefed the delegation on the progress made by Somalia and urged EAC member states to expedite their obligations towards the country in line with the treaty.
Rutazana commended Somalia for the progress it has made in implementing its EAC commitments and pledged the committee's support for initiatives aimed at helping the country meet its regional obligations.
Hassan called on EAC member states to work collectively with Somalia to strengthen regional integration and promote shared prosperity among citizens across East Africa.
The engagement comes as Somalia continues the process of integrating into EAC structures and implementing commitments arising from its membership of the regional bloc.
