Former National Executive Committee (NEC) member of the County Assemblies Forum, and currently a Lecturer at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) in Project Management, Actuarial Science, Innovation & Technology and Researcher, Dr Charles Ng’ang’a has called on the people of Mt Kenya to embrace multiparty politics while maintaining constructive engagement with government and respecting the Presidency as a symbol of national unity.
Speaking during the burial of his brother, which was attended by political leaders and other dignitaries, Dr Ng’ang’a said residents should be free to associate with different political parties and make independent political choices without being subjected to political pressure or demands for regional political uniformity.
“Let us embrace multiparty politics in Mt Kenya. Our people should be free to belong to different political parties and make their own political choices,” Dr Ng’ang’a said.
He, however, cautioned against political approaches that could isolate the region from government, noting that government remains a key avenue through which public programmes, resources and development initiatives are delivered.
Dr Ng’ang’a further urged Kenyans to respect the Presidency as an institution and a symbol of national unity, irrespective of individual political affiliations or political differences.
He said political competition should not undermine respect for constitutional institutions, national cohesion and the broader development interests of the country.
His remarks come as political activity intensifies ahead of the 2027 General Election, with various political parties and political formations seeking to consolidate support in Mt Kenya and across the country.
Dr Ng’ang’a’s position advocates political freedom without political isolation—allowing citizens to exercise their democratic rights, engage constructively with government on development matters, and uphold respect for national institutions and national unity.
